I thought I would share this diagram – with news of the Oakland Athletics moving to Las Vegas and subsequently the decision to demolish the Tropicana to build a new ballpark on that site. This effort comes from what we used to call the department of crazy ideas.
One day my boss burst into my cubicle and said hey, can we plan for a minor league ballpark in our masterplan?
This diagram tested that idea, which also thought to be the magnet for mixed uses around a baseball park. Of course the test fit doesn’t allow for the San Francisco Bay outside right field fence. Nor does it allow for adequate parking but then again, neither did the initial plans for AT&T Park. Ultimately West Sacramento got the Rivercats stadium and this study never made it to any official master plan.
But it was fun and it was crazy.
