Jeremy E. Swift 1951-2015

A visual remembrance

Jeremy was the oldest son of Dick and Dorothy, 4 years older than John and 8 years older than Joel. During Art Studio at UCD Davis, Jeremy lived in the converted 1-car garage in his parents’ home in Davis, California. The door was the original man- door from a breezeway to the garage. Over the frosted glass window – along with a poster from Led Zeppelin I – was a typewritten notice:

Flying Ants Here.

Long ago the roads were rough and narrow. Now many roads are wide and smooth.

Early Works – 1970s

Jeremy studied at UC Davis Art Department, under pioneers in painting and ceramics, including Arneson, Horsting, Neri, Peterson, Snyder, Thiebaud, Wilie, etc. This was the formative first era of the art program at UC Davis. The experience shaped Jeremy’s life and work.

A Stranger in Paradox

Mixed Media 1999-2004

(One sampling era of Jeremy’s Art)

Jeremy didn’t believe in computers for art. Not for him. He meticulously disected magazines, advertisements and other media, building libraries of animals, objects and people. Working with an X-acto and paint, he assembled these works ranging from 8×10 to 12×15. The subjects, themes and typed titles are multilayered and humorous explorations.

Jeremy died on December 13, 2025 after prolonged battles with multiple illnesses. Many family members and friends supported him through the years and will miss and remember Jeremy as an artistic, insightful and humorous soul.

“Long ago the roads were rough and narrow. Now many roads are wide and smooth.”
